Sedation
Sedation Services for Dental Patients in Conception Bay South
In the dental field, practitioners often have to sedate patients to do a number of procedures. At Concept Dental, we offer both inhalation and oral sedation to patients in Conception Bay South. Each of these applications has its benefits but both adequately sedate the patient so that they do not feel any discomfort during a painful procedure.
The safety of our patients is our top priority. We administer sedatives taking all the necessary safety precautions only after the use of sedatives has been signed by a dentist post a thorough consultation with the patient. If you are wondering what type of sedation best suits you, contact us and schedule an appointment with one of our dental care professionals.
Inhalation & Oral Sedation
The two main types of sedation we offer are inhalation and oral sedation. We discuss aspects of each type below.
Inhalation sedation
Nitrous oxide or laughing gas is an odourless and tasteless gas that calms the body after being consumed. A relaxed feeling quickly spreads through the body. In some cases, patients may experience lightheadedness and giggles. The effects wear off quickly and patients are usually back to their regular selves at the end of an appointment. Nitrous oxide is administered through a gas mask. All you have to do is breathe in as you normally would. Nitrous oxide sedation is also covered by some insurance companies.
Oral sedation
This type of sedation requires a prescription in advance. The medication needs to be taken before your appointment time. Just like inhalation sedation, it calms and relaxes your body but you will remain fully conscious. However, once you take this medication, you are legally impaired for 24 hours so you will need to make plans before you proceed with the treatment.
